The philosophy behind Turnkey was born from a need to increase the number of international competitors in Targa events given the current economic climate and the effect it would have the number of local competitors. As this concept was expanded it became obvious that the biggest obstacle was the shipping of vehicles into and out of New Zealand, so the idea was born to build a number of identical cars that could be used in Targa and other events. The BMW E30 class was a real success story in NZ motorsport allowing new people to participate on an equal footing to more seasoned competitors at an afford level and the natural progression of this class was to E36’s, hence we chose these vehicles and set about building three.

These where then tested in the North Island endurance series at Pukekohe and Taupo before they where debuted at Targa Rotorua in June 2009. The total experience is important to them, not just the vehicle and competition, so Turnkey is jointly owned by Peter Martin of Targa NZ, David Taylor of Motorsport Services and Greg Paul of Rally Tours. Each member brings a level of experience from their chosen field and together have provided a full “turnkey” experience from accommodation to transportation for customers who can then just focus on enjoying themselves. Basically, turn up with your cheque book and drive.   

During the testing of the cars we found a lot of interest from within NZ and so we are offering our services to this market also. This is people who don’t have the time or inclination to own their own vehicle but like to participate occasionally in weekend track events, so Turnkey can now provide packages for all budgets.
